Lesson Plan 3

Grade Level: 3rd
Subject: Writing
Topic of study: Autobiographies
Time Allotment: 60 minutes
Standards: With guidance and support from adults, use technology to produce and
                  publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and
                  collaborate with others. (3.W.6)
Objective: Students will use their timelines to write an autobiography. Students will type their autobiography and upload it to the class Google Drive. Students will exchange their autobiographies with their partner to proof read and make edits.

DAY THREE:

Launch
Have students review their timelines on Kidspiration. Ask students to also look at the the expanded timeline.
Go over the KWL charts and see what else needs to be covered.

Instruct
Read them a short autobiography and remind them about the use of personal pronouns
Have students open Pixie and instruct them to first write their one page autobiography, then switch with a partner to proof read, and then they can add pictures and a cover.

Summary
Give students an opportunity to share their autobiography, if there is time they can read the whole thing.
Reinforce vocabulary: biography, autobiography, personal pronouns.

Use the following to grade their autobiography:

Student used personal pronouns (5 points)
Student followed their chronological timeline (5 points)
Good mechanics-spelling, grammar, etc. (3 points)
